Measures Implemented To Support Water Supply Recovery In Southern Areas

MEASURES IMPLEMENTED TO SUPPORT WATER SUPPLY RECOVERY IN SOUTHERN AREAS

EThekwini Municipality wishes to inform residents that, as part of urgent efforts to restore water supply and improve water storage levels in affected areas, the South Coast Augmentation (SCA) system will be switched off daily between 18:00 to 22:00.

This temporary measure is necessary to support the recovery of the Woodlands 3 and 4 reservoirs and improve water availability across the network.

Due to critically low water levels in key reservoirs, water is currently being rationed and redistributed between affected systems. 

Some reservoir outlets have been temporarily isolated, while inflows to certain reservoirs have been reduced to prioritise areas experiencing the most severe shortages.

Communities supplied by the Amanzimtoti Waterworks may experience reduced water pressure or intermittent water supply, while some areas may continue to receive water, others may experience prolonged interruptions depending on reservoir levels.

Water tankers will continue to provide relief to affected communities until reservoir levels recover and normal water supply is restored.

• Lewis Drive Reservoir: Lewis Drive, Amanzimtoti CBD, Athlone Park and Kingsway Hospital

• Almond Reservoir: Almond, Winklespruit, Warner Beach, Illovo Glen and Lower Illovo

• Doonside Reservoir: Doonside

• Launceston Reservoir: Launceston

• Illovo Reservoir: Illovo Beach and Karridene Protea Hotel

• Panorama Reservoir: Panorama Park

• Umgababa and Amagcino Reservoirs: Umgababa

• Mgobhozini Reservoir: Umnini and Area Africa

• Mfume and KwaKhanyile Reservoirs: Mfume

• KwaSoni, Mashiwase and Nkwali Reservoirs: KwaSoni, Mashiwase and Nkwali

• Lovu (Smithfield) Reservoir: Lovu A, B and C, Bhekulwandle, Msarhweni and Isolempilo

• Lovu Reservoir: Lovu Phases 1 and 3

• Lovu Landfill Reservoir: Lovu Landfill and Inkwali

• KwaMakhutha Reservoir: KwaMakhutha, Mkhazini and eMasomini

• Mbongontwini Reservoir: Ezimbokodweni and Ekuhlengeni Psychiatric Hospital
