CITY UNDERTAKES WINTER MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME AT STADIUMS
The eThekwini Municipality has commenced its annual Winter Maintenance Programme at selected stadiums to ensure that playing surfaces remain in optimal condition.
The programme has been carefully scheduled during the winter period, which coincides with the soccer off-season, to allow for deep scarification, turf rehabilitation, and sufficient recovery time for the grass surfaces.
These essential maintenance activities will improve the quality, safety, and longevity of the playing fields.
During this period, stadium pitches will be closed to allow for the necessary maintenance and recovery of the turf.
As part of the programme, the following stadiums will be temporarily closed:
Stadium Maintenance Period
🔺Moses Mabhida Stadium 31 May – 24 July 2026
🔺Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium 01 June – 02 August 2026
🔺King Zwelithini Stadium 06 June – 02 August 2026
🔺Chatsworth Stadium
01 June - 02 August 2026
Although the pitch at Moses Mabhida Stadium will be undergoing rehabilitation, visitors will still be able to enjoy stadium tours, retail outlets, and other facilities throughout the maintenance period.
To ensure continuity of operations and minimise disruptions to sporting activities, the following facilities will remain open and available for bookings throughout the maintenance period:
• Princess Magogo Stadium
• Mpumalanga Stadium
The Municipality remains committed to providing world-class sporting facilities that meet the needs of communities, athletes, and sporting organisations.
Sports clubs, federations, event organisers, and members of the public are encouraged to plan accordingly and make use of the available facilities during the maintenance period.
