ARTICULATE AFRICA TO BOOST CREATIVE ARTS IN ETHEKWINI
EThekwini Municipality’s flagship literary and art fair, Articulate Africa, returns this year.
The programme aims to empower the creative industry in the City.
Articulate Africa is a book and art fair that has been hosted by the Recreation and Parks Directorate since 2017. It aims to promote Durban as a centre for literature, visual art, and gastronomy, featuring an array of authors, visual artists, and gastronomists from across the continent.
The fair is designed to provide a platform for people in creative industries to connect with audiences and drive future engagements, as well as to promote social cohesion and enjoyment of diverse creative expressions.
Articulate Africa 2026 will be launched on 28 April 2026 at the Cato Manor Museum, showcasing the best of local talent in literature, art, craft, design, film, music, and more.
It will be opened with an art exhibition, followed by a book launch, featuring a compilation of stories from various creatives in the City.
The Articulate Africa programme will be hosted in various regions, with different activities taking place at each activation.

Venue: Umkhumbane Museum, Cato Manor
The programme will continue at Midway Crossing on 4 May, followed by Umnini Thusong Centre on 5 May. Thereafter, an event takes place at the Clermont Library on 13 May, and at Ohlange Secondary School on 14 May.
The main programme takes place at the Durban Exhibition Centre, from 18 to 20 May 2026. Entrance to all venues is free.
