Moses Mabhida Stadium, the Durban Promenade, uShaka Marine World Theme Park, the Point development, Bridge City, Inkosi Albert Luthuli International ConventionComplex (ICC) and the Warwick bridge are some of the major infrastructure projects completed in the past twenty years.

These projects will contribute to the City’s economic growth, job creation, training and skills development mostly in the construction, tourism and hospitality sectors.

The ICC, for instance, has become one of the major contributors to the City’s economy and continues to create jobs through the many conferences and major events hosted. The Municipality has also invested millions of Rands in Durban’s famous Golden Mile to boost Durban’s competitive edge in the tourism arena.

Other large scale projects were commissioned and implemented in partnership with or independently by the National and Provincial Government, state-owned enterprises and the private sector. These include the King Shaka International Airport which opened in 2010.

This development has created unprecedented levels of connectivity for the city, while the emergent airport city, Dube TradePort, is a hive of activity, establishing a new world class passenger and cargo hub and foundation for Southern Africa’s premier air logistics platform.

Private sector organisations such as the Tsogo Sun group have complemented the City’s investment in the promenade upgrade with an equally impressive multi-million Rand investment in the upgrade of the Elangeni and Maharani Hotels  and the Sun- Coast Casino expansion. These projects augur well for the City’s positioning in the highly competitive local and international tourism sector.

The City is committed to harnessing the efforts of all role-players in implementing high impact infrastructure projects  which are a necessary bedrock for future economic growth.
